Dear W.A.R.L,


I just wanted to send you an update on my beloved new companion that I adopted from you almost two months ago, Finnegan, (formerly called Cameron). Finn is thriving and has nestled his way into everyone's heart! He has come out of his shell and put on some much needed weight. He is a curious busybody who seems to always be on a exploration mission. He loves his daily walks,
where he seems to always meet new friends and fans alike. He has become a bit of walking advertisement for W.A.R.L, as I always remind people that the very best dogs come from your local shelters. And who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Finnegan has already learned how to sit, stay, come and now we are just working on lay down!

I wanted to thank you so much for rescuing Finnegan as I simply cannot imagine life without my little guy. He has surely found his forever home!

Hello,

I just wanted to send you a note and let you know how Felix is doing.  We adopted him in February and he has been an excellent addition to our family.  My daughter was nervous around him at first as this was her first dog, but now I couldn't picture her without him.  When we read books at night he gets right up in bed with her and lays down to hear the story himself.

In June we moved to a house that has a lot more space for Felix to run around outside.  While he's afraid of the dark and won't stray far at night he loves to do laps around the house and hunt for animals in the woods.  We have found that Felix forgets his size and thinks that he's a lap dog, we usually let him stay for a couple minutes but he gets heavy after a while.  He has also taken up his own spot in our bed at night.  He still doesn't like to be alone when the house is quiet and dark so he finds solace being in our bed and he has learned to be respectful of our space in the bed and sleep right at our feet.

He's been a great addition to our family and we couldn't picture life without him.  He keeps us all company and has a special relationship with each one of us.  My father in law spoils him rotten, my mother in law plays with him when she gets home from work.  He protects me as I'm pregnant, and watches every move our daughter makes to make sure she is safe.  And about a 1/2 hour before my husband comes home from work he watches for him and then gets ecstatic when he comes home and covers him from head to toe with kisses. 

His personality is like that of another kid in the house, but you will catch him at times trying to stand tall and proud like he's the man around here that can do it all.  We have found he's not a very good watch dog as he loves when people visit.  He runs to greet them at the door and cries when they don't come say hello to him.  All in all I don't think we could have asked for a better animal and we thank you for letting him be a part of our family.  Here is a picture of him that I took recently, enjoy!

About a month ago, my roommates and I decided it was time to welcome a cat into our lives and came to Petfinder.com to look for one.  Of course, we feel in love with every pet we saw, especially after we saw a few in videos playing and having a good time.  We decided to go to WARL to meet the cats. 

We spent a long time in the cat room and thought it would be impossible to decide.  One big, active cat named Sobe had caught our eye online but we noticed on arrival that he had special dietary restrictions so we thought he may not be a good match for us.  We also felt, since we knew we'd love any cat, that we should consider adopting the cat that had been there the longest.  Originally we didn't think Sobe fit this bill, but it turns out he really did because he had been at the shelter, adopted, then returned after only a short time.

When it was finally our turn to spend some one-on-one time with some cats, we asked about Sobe's diet and found out it was nothing too difficult, he just need limited portions.  The second they brought him into the room, we all new he was coming home with us that day.

Sobe is a wonderful cat and companion.  He is very curious and talented at opening doors.  He talks a lot and has tremendous amounts of love to give, purring and kneading all the time.  He loves to meet new people, play in plastic totes, and be wherever the action is.  We are so happy to have found Sobe and look forward to loving him for a long time coming.

 

Good morning-
We adopted Goofey (have renamed him Gus) on Thursday, June 11th.  His description was right on target.  He has an endless supply of energy! He and our 4 year old Shepherd, Jake, get along well and spend lots of time together in the yard playing ball.  He is definitely play-driven! He loves his rides and walks and has already been to the beach.  He is very friendly and meets new adults, kids, and animals without incident. He is not a barker-unusual in a Shepherd!  A very good boy and he is "goofy". We enjoyed and were impressed by our visit to the Worcester Animal Rescue League.  Everyone was so nice and helpful with the application process. We thank you for your assistance with Gus' adoption.

Hi,
Just wanted to update you on Mau, whose name is now Mack. We adopted him just over a week ago and he is doing great. A few potty accidents, and 1 cat didn't like him at first, but everything has settled now.  Thank you so much, he is a great addition to our family!!! I am sending a few pictures as well, of Mack and Olivia. Mack is a thief and hoarder as you can see in one of the pictures. He steals all of Olivia's toys and treats and puts them in his bed!

Hi Doreen,

Tony Ryon here. I adopted Echo five years ago, wow how time flies. Echo is going to be eight next March. He's my best friend and is doing great. He's in excellent condition as well. I enclosed some pics for you. I guess I missed this years callender, but maybe he could be a candidate for next years. I thank you and the shelter for your service because I found a best friend for life with Echo.

We adopted Bailey (then Dixie) in November of 2005. She has brought so much happiness and laughter to our home. We are so happy to have her and hope someday to adopt a brother for her...that is if we can find one that can keep up!

Dear WARL,

February 10th 2007 my fiancé and I adopted a Pitbull Terrier by the name of Rex from you. I wanted to just take a minute to thank you for bringing this bundle of joy into our lives. He is the best dog in the world and we love him soooo much! About a month after adopting him, our apartment facility caught fire. The night of the fire we were displaced and the Red Cross came to our aid, however they were not sure if they could provide us a room at a hotel to stay in with our dog. They said he might have to go to a shelter until we found a place. That was the most devastating thing I could hear. Not only were we now homeless but we were going to have to bring Rex back to the shelter. I refused to do this. He is our lives. like our little boy! They were able to find us a hotel in Worcester that accepted animals so everything ended up working out and now we have an even better apartment in Webster. He loves to run and be free and is so playful.He loves everyone and is a kissing machine! I'm in love with this dog and am so happy he can be a part of our new life/ family together. I just wanted to thank you for everything!!!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to send you all a picture of the cat I got on the day of your kitten shower. I love him. He was the one called Polk and the one that was thought of as a girl but was really a boy. I named him Lucky. I love him so much. He is so cute and cuddly. He is one of the best cats I have ever had. He is very nice for a cat that was a stray. All of you must have treated him really well and I know you took good care of him before I got him! Thank You so much! I hope you like the picture.

Dear WARL,

Last year I adopted Prinki. Well my mom and her boyfriend did for me last year as a birthday present! I haven't really had time to write you a letter or thank you but I just want to thank you so much for letting us adopt Prinki because last year we had a dog named Mickey that passed and it was very hard until Prinki came into my life.

I've been so happy and when I come home from school I always look forward to playing with her! Prinki is doing good and is now staying with me at my dad's home because my mom and dad don't live together and before I was staying at my mom's. I really wanted to keep Prinki at my dad's but we didn't know if the dog we had at my dad's, Chloe which was a German shepherd, would get along but they loved each other! Prinki is the best thing that ever happened to me and I thank you with all my heart for making this happen. Prinki is an amazing dog and very well trained.

Hi,

My name is Champ. My people adopted me from your shelter a little over a year ago and I just wanted to let you know how I am doing in my forever home.

My mommy and daddy just bought a nice home for me to run and play in. I have my very own room with my crate and all of my toys, and even a couch to sit on! I like to sit on my couch and look out the window and wait for my daddy to get home from work. I love my new home!

I also have a new little sister to play with. My mommy works at the MSPCA, and one day she just came home with my new little sister. Her name is Gwen and I love to play with her.

My favorite thing to do is cuddle. I like to sit as close to my mommy and daddy as I possibly can. I really love them. They take me for walks all the time and sometimes I get to ride in the car! And when it's warm, they take me to the park and I love it there! I see all sorts of other dogs there and I have so much fun playing with them. I like to walk on the trails because there are so many new things to smell. I won't swim in the lake like the other dogs. I am afraid because I don't think I know how to swim. My parents tell me I can, but I don't believe them, so I won't go past the shallow water.

My other favorite thing to do is eat. I wish I got bigger meals, but my mommy says I will get fat. I learned how to open the cover of the food bin though, and sometimes I'll sneak a little extra food, but my parents always catch me!

I hope you enjoyed my story! Thank you so much for helping me find my new family! I love them very much! Sometimes my mommy brings me to work with her, and she tells me that is the only time I will ever see the inside of a shelter, and it makes me very happy! So thank you again for working so hard taking care of all the animals and finding them good homes. You are really awesome people!

Dear Worcester ARL,

We loooove Digger! We brought him home in August of '06 and he has become a huge part of our family. He is friendly, loyal, obedient, and an absolute mush. It took some time for Digger to come out of his shell and show us who he really is. It was absolutely worth the wait. From day one he has been fantastic with my young daughter and our two cats. I didn't realize how much joy a dog adds to your daily life. He is happy to see us in the morning, greets us with lots of love when we come home, and he is just so appreciative of the attention and affection we give him.

We have gone through an obedience course which was helpful for me, since Digger knew all the commands and I didn't!!! We are now working on how to behave around other dogs on our walk. We have tried a few strategies recommended by the trainer and he is improving greatly, which is a relief because he loves long walks. We should have this resolved by the spring. Other than that he has had not a single behavior issue. He is the best dog I have ever met.

I want to extend a huge thank you to the staff at WARL for my dog and for all the animals you care for at the shelter. It's great work that you do for the animals and the owners, new and old, alike. Thank you for caring for our dog until we could pick him up and addressing his dental issues. I can't imagine a better addition to our family than Digger.

We would also like to thank Digger's first family. It is obvious that this dog was well loved, trained, and socialized with children and cats. We feel sorry for them to have had to let him go due to someone in the house being allergic and want them to know that this is indeed Digger's forever home where he will continue to receive love, exercise, treats, respect, and companionship. (Oh, and Cheese.)
