About the League

The Worcester Animal Rescue League was founded and incorporated in 1912 by a group of women determined to save overworked and abused farm horses. Almost a full century later, their love for animals and thier struggle to rescue them from abuse, neglect, and inhumane treatment continues. We serve 17 communities surrounding Worcester, Massachusetts. Other services include lost and found, boarding, adoptions, educational programs, and volunteer opportunities.

Over 7000 cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies are successfully cared for each year. Abandoned animals with treatable but expensive veterinary needs, who may have been humanely put to sleep in years past, are given a second chance by recieving the medical treatment that they need and deserve. The animals that come to our shelter are spayed or neutered before going to thier new homes. All of this is accomplished through funding by our generous donors. We are a private non profit shelter and, therefore, do not receive any county, state, or federal funding. Our facility relies heavily on the generosity of our donors and our volunteers.

Together, we make a difference.
